Your guide will meet you at your hotel (should you prefer or if you are staying outside the center, we will be happy to arrange for an on site meeting point) and arrange for transfer by cab to Rome's Ancient City.
We will skip the lines and visit the Flavian Amphitheater (this is the Coliseum’s real name!), which was an arena for gladiator’s contests and public spectacles. We will admire the incredible engineering genius of the romans and learn about the mad emperors that performed in the arena as gladiators.
From the Arch of Titus we will walk through the heart of the Ancient city, the Roman Forum, where we will bring back to life the old memories of a lost world, from the assassination of Julius Caesar to fascinating details of daily life in ancient Rome. We will see the sight where the body of Caesar was cremated, the Temple of the Vestal Virgins, the “Curia Julia” (Senate House), the Basilica Aemilia, the Temple of Saturn, then walk on the Via Sacra, where legions and emperors once marched during the triumphal parades.
Through the Arch of Septimius Severus and up to the high steps we will reach the Capitol Hill’s main square (Campidoglio) that Michelangelo transformed from pagan to papal.
From there a lovely stroll will take us to the “Ghetto”, the Jewish part of Rome. We will see Marcello’s Theatre built for the will of Julio Caesar, ruins of Apollo Sosiano’s temple and Bellona’s temple.
From there we will walk through Largo di Torre Argentina, our Temple of the cats. We will reach Piazza Navona to discover the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini and the Church of St Agnes by Borromini while hearing about the rivalry between these 2 artists. Next a short stroll would take us to the ancient pagan temple of the Pantheon, which today is a Catholic Church. We will cover the construction of the dome and the Oculus as we wander inside this masterpiece in engineering that has stood intact for over two centuries.
Last but certainly not least we will arrive to the beautiful Trevi Fountain: according to the legend, if you throw a coin into the fountain, you will surely come back to the eternal city. It’s your turn now, throw you coin and then enjoy one of the best gelato in the city!
