“Villa d’Este is one of the most important and complete testimony of the Renaissance, an example of Italian-style Garden”. This is what the UNESCO said about the Villa!
You start your private half day trip from your accommodation with the driver and the guide. You will reach the Villa which is located about 20 km from your hotel. With your private guide you will visitt he magnificent Villa, built in the heart of the Renaissance (around 1550) for the will of the Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este, Tivoli’s governor!
Walk around the Villa with your guide, taking in the gardens and posing for photos in front of Bernini-designed fountains while learning about the Cardinal and his lavish life in the villa. The Villa d'Este's fame, however, is due more to its gardens than to the building itself. This most famous of Italian-style gardens, which has been imitated, reverberates with the sound of so many fountains that it inspired the Romantic composer Franz Liszt to write a piano suite called "Fountains of the Villa d'Este".
After the visit of the Villa you will take a nice walk in the little and ancient town Tivoli. The city offers a wide view over the Roman Campagna. Tivoli's quarries produce travertine, a particular white calcium-carbonate rock used in building most Roman monuments. The water power of the falls supplies some of the electricity that lights Rome. The slopes of the neighboring hills are covered with olives, vineyards and gardens.
Return to your hotel. Lunch stop is not included.
